Why do quarterly data sets contain records with domains that ceased to exist?

You may find nearly empty records (apart from the domain name and the query date fields) of non-existent domains in quarterly data sets since they get collected as part of the initial data collection procedure under the assumption that they still exist. As soon as the data sets get updated these domains are identified as non-existent.
